about MOSSY BEE
I am Saskatchewan-born and raised, and spend my days working as a professional biologist. Outside of work I am a maker, creating uniquely modern pieces using ethically-sourced Canadian furs and leather - some of which I tan myself using natural methods free of chemicals and solvents. My Germanic-Russian heritage connects me to subsistence ways of life where natural materials and forest resources provided food, clothing, medicine, and a sustainable lifestyle. I create from my home which is located on the traditional territories of the Nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda, and the homeland of the Métis/Michif Nation.
Each of my items is entirely handmade by myself, and many include beaded finishes which are embroidered one bead at a time. Hand stitching makes these items extremely durable and long lasting. Because my materials come from our northern boreal forests, my creations reflect this natural environment - a place that inspires and grounds me.
I hope you enjoy these unique and truly Canadian-made pieces.
